Technology advances our lives and makes them safer. For example, there is a decrease in accidents on sections of motorways where CCTV systems are in operation. Traffic cameras not only monitor the speed limit, but also ensure that the driver and passengers are wearing their seat belts.
However, there is no “excess on the ground”. So, recently in Yekaterinburg, a driver received a “letter of happiness” only because there was a toy on the windshield that was not fastened with a belt. The driver was charged with an offense and fined 1,000 rubles. There was no limit to the outrage at the illegality of the claims! The funny incident hit the media. Representatives of the traffic police met with the driver and explained to him the right to appeal the decision.
But traffic cameras don’t work on their own. All information from them is analyzed by living employees. This raises questions about how the inspector didn’t see the toy, mistaking it for a passenger?! The agency has now acknowledged the error. We can only hope that this is just an isolated case. And the driver of the Gazelle deserves a fine for obstructing his view by placing a toy on the window. This could cause a serious accident.
